With more than most of the round robin matches over, the IPL 2017 is slowly approaching its business end the playoffs. With both the Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Gujarat Lions out of the race, it is a contest between the remaining six teams.

Mumbai Indians:

After they sealed a convincing win against the Delhi Daredevils yesterday, they have become the first of the four teams to qualify for the playoffs. This season has been on point so far for the Mumbai side who have won 9 of their played 11 games. They have 3 games remaining and can end up finishing in the top 2 even if they manage to win just 1 of their remaining fixtures.

Sunrisers Hyderabad:

The defending champions have been somewhat derailed from their road to qualification due to back to back losses in their last 2 games. To be on the safer side, they should win their remaining 2 games. A place in the top two seems unlikely even after having a good net run rate of +0.541, they are alive in the race to enter the playoffs thanks to the washout in Bangalore.

Kolkata Knight Riders:

After a positive start and a powerful first half of the season, the Knight Riders have lost some pace accounting to their consecutive losses. With their destructive batsman Chris Lynn returning from injury. They will comfortably qualify, provided if they win 2 of their remaining 3 games. A top two finish looks to be on the cards with their positive net run rate of +0.725 in case of tie in points. The two time champions look to be in a good place.

Rising Pune Supergiant:

After losing three out of their first four games, the RPS side has made a tremendous comeback by winning seven out of their next eight games. They are placed second in the table with 16 points and two games remaining. They can qualify with a win in their remaining games or even if SRH lose at least one of their remaining games. Their Net run rate seems to be a major setback when it comes to them finishing in the top two as both MI and KKR have superior NRRs.

KXIP have played the least number of games this season and have secured 10 points and are in a state of peril when it comes to qualifying. They have good momentum coming into the end of the regular season by winning three of their last four games. However they have some challenging games ahead against the table top teams. They can get eliminated even if they win three of their remaining four games if KKr, SRH and RPS win their remaining fixtures.

Delhi Daredevils:

After their huge defeat to the table toppers Mumbai Indians, their chances of making it to the playoffs looks rather slim. They can qualify only if they win all their remaining games, SRH lose their remaining games and KXIP do the same. Even if SRH and KKR win one more match the Daredevils will be out of the hunt. They will get knocked out even if they lose one of their remaining three fixtures.
