The Kanpur Police may question two players accused from Gujarat Lions after one of the bookie who was arrested for betting on an Indian Premier League match said that he was in touch with players. According to reports, there is a revelation from one of 3 bookies about 2 players from the Gujarat Lion franchise to be in touch with the bookies.
Nayan Ramesh Shah, Vikas Chauhan and Ramesh Kumar were arrested on Thursday from the Landmark hotel in Kanpur with 40 Lakhs Rupees cash and it is the same hotel where the players of 2 IPL franchises stayed. The bookies were betting on the match between Gujarat Lions and Delhi Daredevils where Gujarat Lions lost to Delhi Daredevils at Green Park Stadium.
Police Superintendent Anurag Arya said, “In a Whatsapp recovered from Shah’s phone, he is telling Bunty ( a bookie from Ajmer) he is in touch with 2 Gujarat players. After procuring his remand on Monday, we will question Shah about his proximity with these two players. If he discloses their names, police will question them.”
The sources also claim that Ajmer and Kanpur police had conducted joint raid at Bunty’s hideout where they procured 25 mobile phones and 3 laptops.
Kanpur police got hands on the suspected three bookies along with 40 lakh rupees on Wednesday night in the Landmark hotel. The two IPL teams Gujarat Lions and Delhi Daredevils were also staying in the same hotel and the cops were investigating the issue. According to sources, one of the three bookies Ramesh Shah’s network extends across all the major stadiums in India from where he acquires important information on pitches.
The bookie was caught red-handed as BCCI Anti-Corruption Bureau was keeping a watch on the bookies for a couple of days.
