In the ongoing French Open Superseries, Title-contenders PV Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth secure a place into the quarter-finals. While Saina Nehwal’s makes an exit from the French Open after losing a game against Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi.
With the win, Srikanth jumped four places in the latest BWF rankings, to be ranked no. 4. Now he just needs 11,000 points to take world no. 1 Victor Axelsen off his throne.
Yesterday, Srikanth, who clinched his third title of the season at Denmark Open Super Series Premier last week, got past Hong Kong’s Wong Wing Ki Vincent 21-19, 21-17 in 37 minutes.
India’s Srikanth will now face World No. 6 Shi Yuqi in the quarter-finals knockout match.
BWF Rank 2 holder, PV Sindhu thrashed Japanese Sayaka Takahashi 21-14, 21-13 in 39 minutes knockout. In Friday’s quarter-final event, Rio Olympic silver medallist Sindhu will face China’s Chen Yufei, who knocked Sindhu out in the opening round at Denmark Open.
Saina Nehwal’s unexpected loss
Former World No 1 Saina Nehwal met an unexpected loss from World No 5 Akane Yamaguchi. This is her second loss to the same opponent in past two weeks.
Saina lost the first round 9-21, she then tried to fight back in the second round, despite being 7-11 down at the break. The Indian managed to get to 19-19 and had also grabbed a game point at 20-19 but Yamaguchi managed to stay ahead.
She finally ended up losing 9-21 21-23 in a 39 -minute clash.
