Bangladesh had won the toss and elected to bat, but they failed to make a good start against India as they lost two early wickets with less than 50 runs, then India’s strong bowling restricted them to a modest score 256 in just 38.5 overs with Durga Rao took 3 wickets in 3 overs by giving away only 20 runs, while Deepak Malik and Prakash bagged 2 wickets each.

In reply, India’s Ganeshbhai Muhudkar’s outstanding 112 off 69 balls, Deepak Malik, who was retired out for 53 off 43 balls, and Naresh’s handy 40 runs in 18 balls help the defending champions easily to qualify for the final of the tournament. Madhukar was awarded as the  Man of the Match for his match-winning knock.
