Stars Sports putting in a commitment of Rs 16,247.5 crore ($2.55 billion) to get the Indian Premier League. A shocker, a big shocker I say, but indeed is true. Star Sports paid a huge sum of more than $2bn to buy the media right for IPL for coming for years. If seen closely, the numbers are Rs 3,269.5 crore per season (2018-2022).

This deal elevated the status of Indian Sports in the whole world as it is even more than the price of title sponsorship paid for NBA and somewhere close to Premier League football.

EPL and NFL are the market leaders in terms of bringing the per-match revenue as the EPL get Rs 84 crore per match value from title sponsorship and NFL rules the game with Rs 150 crore per-match revenue.

Before this deal, Sony Pictures Network India had the media rights for IPL for $1.63 billion (Rs 10,436 crore) for a nine-years. The value has observed a 182% jump this time and this is what makes it one of the biggest sponsorship deals in the Indian sports.
