It must be said, only the best players in the world have been able to adjust to the demands of playing in all formats of the game. Kane Williamson is one such batsman. There were doubts recently about his credentials in T20 cricket but the class player has brilliantly replied with his willow in the IPL season this year.
Kane Williamson has been excellent for Sunrisers Hyderabad with the bat. He is the side’s highest run-getter and has done this at a very good strike-rate.
Tom Moody, the head coach for the Kane Williamson led side, has echoed recently just how good his captain has been with the bat. Moody was recently quoted as saying, “To be honest it has not been a surprise to us. Kane (Williamson) has been a good T20 player for a number of years. It is really an opportunity for people watching to see the versatility in Kane Williamson”.
He further added, “He has got a T20 hundred, I think about four years ago in the Champions League. It is no surprise to us that Kane has the ability to adapt from Test cricket to 50-over cricket, down to T20 cricket. That is why we bought him four years ago,”
“A pure batsman still is very dangerous in this format. Probably the best example would be Mike Hussey. He was seen as a pure Test cricketer but I tell you what, he could play T20 cricket too.”
Sunrisers Hyderabad seemed to have mastered the tough art of defending the low totals in T20 format in this Indian Premier League and their head coach is pretty delighted by it.
Talking about this, Tom Moody said, “It is something that the whole squad takes pride in because defending a total is a collective responsibility and you obviously need bowlers but also 10 other fielders to take responsibility,”
He also cleared the perceptions that having the reached the top of the table, and into the playoffs already, Sunrisers might look to experiment and said, “We will not be looking to make any sort of experiments moving forward. To us, it is about looking for constant improvement. We are looking to play our best XI on any given day. We ideally want to finish on top two, we have still got some unfinished business there.
“We still see this as an opportunity and you know, momentum is important in this format. Ideally, we would like to keep the winning momentum,”
Talking about the injury to Wriddhimann Saha, their first-choice wicketkeeper, ahead of their next match, Moody said, “Saha will not be available. He is still recovering from soreness in his shoulder. We are expecting him to be available for the final (league) match. (Apart from Saha) at this stage we are okay,”
Always been thought as a side that is over-dependent on their bowling, SRH gave a brilliant account of themselves with the bat by chasing down the huge score of 187 against Delhi Daredevils and won the game by 9 wickets.
Moody concluded by saying about this that, “Delhi was an opportunity for us to express ourselves as a batting group and both Kane (Williamson) and Shikhar (Dhawan) did it in great style,”
